Ye are gods

Christianity teaches that we can become by grace what God is by nature. St. Athanasius said "God became man that man might become god." Yes, indeed, we are to be conformed to the Image of Christ, and to be "Little Christs." Cults and ideologies take this very Christian idea and twist it up. Mormonism is one example. Transcendentalism is another. Many Christians do not think of Christianity in this way, and so miss the historical connection that ideologies are simply attempts to save man by deifying him without Christ, and with disastrous results.
